Protect from Freezing Service

Protective service for freezables will be provided at Carrier’s discretion on single-line shipments from November through March, subject to the following: 

  1. Suitable equipment is available. 
  1. Carrier must be advised of protective service requirement when notified of pickup. 
  1. The Bill of Lading and freight must be clearly marked with the notation, "Protect From Freezing” or words of similar nature. 
  1. Freezable shipments must be tendered on a pallet. 
  1. Outside temperature is forecast to be 10 degrees Fahrenheit or higher and then shipments will be accepted on the following days:
    • Next Day Transit Lanes – Monday through Thursday.
    • Second Day Transit Lanes – Monday through Wednesday.
    • Third Day Transit Lanes – Monday and Tuesday.

Freezable shipments will not be accepted on Fridays or the day before a holiday. 

  1. Shipments requiring appointment delivery will not be accepted. 
  1. Shipments requiring "will call” or "dock pick up” will not be accepted

Carrier may refuse to accept any shipment where weather forecasts or prevailing road conditions indicate highway closures. Sutton Transport reserves the right to delay delivery of certain freezable shipments. If there is a choice between delivering the shipment on time and exposing it to freezing or to protect the shipment with a delay of delivery – Sutton Transport chooses to protect and delay.

 Protect from freezing service charge will $20.00 per shipment, in addition to the otherwise applicable rates and charges.
